Stop Waiting for Opportunity - Go Create It!

How many times have you told yourself, “I just don’t have enough time”? If you’re a real estate agent trying to break through the noise of cold calling and expensive ads, time is usually your primary excuse for not launching that YouTube channel or taking on a massive new passion project.

In the latest episode of our podcast, my partner Travis Plumb and I broke down a story from our own team that completely shatters this time myth. It’s a powerful testament to what happens when you stop waiting for things to line up, step outside your comfort zone, and actively engineer your own luck.

The Needle in a Haystack Opportunity

Our team member, Krissy, recently set a simple rule for her year: Expand. She resolved to say yes to opportunities completely outside her comfort zone and actively welcome the risk of rejection. Little did she know how quickly that mindset would be put to the test.

When she heard whispers of a national singing competition celebrating America's 250th birthday, she decided to throw her hat in the ring. The setting? A massive gala performance directly under the historic Statue of Liberty National Monument on Ellis Island. Out of over a thousand talented applicants nationwide, Krissy won. She beat out seasoned professionals, including singers who had performed for world leaders in major venues, all by showing up authentically.

Overcoming the Obstacle Course

If you think her path to the stage was flawless, think again. Real life doesn’t halt when big opportunities knock. Krissy’s journey was packed with challenges that would make most people throw in the towel:

  • Sickness & Deadlines: Right as she began practicing her audition song—which was entirely in French (a language she doesn't even speak)—she came down with a severe case of COVID-19, followed immediately by laryngitis. To top it off, the deadline was unexpectedly moved up by two weeks.
  • The 4-Hour Audition: With limited air function, she went to her local church, kept her four kids occupied in another room with a movie, and filmed for four straight hours without any edits or autotune until she got the perfect raw take.
  • The Creative Hustle: Realizing she needed a memorable gown for a front-and-center VIP gala performance, she couldn't find exactly what she envisioned. Her solution? She taught herself how to sew the perfect custom American flag gown using step-by-step guidance from AI tools.

Stepping onto the Big Stage in NYC

Arriving in New York City, the experience quickly shifted into celebrity status. The preparation kicked off at the iconic iHeartRadio Building for professional hair, makeup, and live filming. Krissy found herself working directly with legendary vocal coach Roger Love—the mastermind who has trained icons like John Bon Jovi, Joaquin Phoenix, and Bradley Cooper.

During a 45-minute traffic jam navigating past Central Park, Krissy chose to skip the casual small talk and instead treat the ride as an elite masterclass, soaking up decades of industry wisdom from her mentor. One quote from Roger perfectly captures the essence of creation:

"A great song comes from about a thousand bad songs. You've got to just go back and write a bunch of really bad songs, and then you'll somehow get a hit out of those. Then you just copy that hit and replicate that success."

The same exact rule applies to your digital media. Your first YouTube thumbnails might look unpolished, your lighting might be uneven, or you might accidentally record an entire video with the audio turned off (happens to the best of us!). But consistency and incremental improvement are what ultimately lead to a masterpiece.

The Legacy We Leave Behind

When the event kicked off on the grounds of Ellis Island, surrounded by historical energy and a star-studded VIP audience, Krissy delivered a stunning performance that earned the night's only standing ovation. The impact, however, resonated far beyond the applause of White House officials.

The true victory was showing her kids, who are currently being homeschooled, that boundaries are meant to be expanded. Seeing their parents create videos on YouTube or perform on national television instills a powerful lesson: there is absolutely nothing you cannot do if you have the resourcefulness to try.

Conclusion

Opportunities aren’t magical moments that drop into your lap when you finally have "free time." You have to build them out of sheer willpower, morning affirmations, and a willingness to look imperfect while you learn. Krissy didn't wait for a stage to find her—she claimed it. Stop letting a busy schedule or the fear of a crowded market keep you on the sidelines. Go print out your vision, step in front of the camera, and create your own luck today!

Just like Krissy expanded her boundaries to win big on a national stage, it’s time to expand yours and completely transform your business. Want to catch more behind-the-scenes real estate strategies, YouTube growth tactics, and deep-dive marketing discussions?

Let’s be completely honest: the old-school real estate playbook is exhausting. Spending hours cold-calling uninspired lists, dropping thousands on unpredictable Zillow leads, or blasting generic postcards into mailboxes that go straight to the recycling bin just doesn't hit the mark anymore. When I jumped into the real estate scene in Dallas, Texas , I knew I had to find a different way to build a real estate business. I started with a YouTube channel focused on relocation buyers, which was an incredible tool—driving over 500 transactions completely organically. But as the market shifted, a question kept popping up: What about listings? Standard relocation guides don't appeal to local homeowners looking to sell. If you want to unlock an unlimited, free stream of high-quality seller leads, you have to shift your strategy toward local intelligence content. Here is exactly how we cracked the code to dominate local listings without spending a single dime on advertising.

Every single day, I see it on my feed: "You need this AI platform," "AI has completely automated my life," and "If you aren't automating everything, you're falling behind". But after years of building a business that earned over $1 million in GCI in our first year alone, I have a different perspective. Is all this noise helping you, or is it creating a "technology wormhole" that’s sucking the personal touch out of your deals?. In 2026, the question isn't whether you should use AI—it's whether you're using it to build a bridge to your clients or a wall between them.

Everything works if you actually do it, but let’s be honest: some things are just a grind. For years, John Burton was the king of the "hustle," setting up 50+ signs for open houses and cold calling for four to six hours a day. While he was successful, he eventually felt jaded. "You're going up against people that don't want to talk to you every single day," John shared. So, he made the switch to YouTube real estate marketing, and the results in his small town of Durango, Colorado (population: 20,000) have been nothing short of life-changing.

I’ll be honest: I thought about quitting a lot during my latest race. I was waist-deep in mud, it was freezing, and the rain was relentless. Running a 50k—31.5 miles of technical trail—was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done physically. But the discomfort wasn't just a physical test; it was a masterclass in business resilience. Whether you’re training for a long-distance race or building a real estate empire, the path to the finish line is rarely a straight line.

If you’re a real estate agent still stuck on the cold-calling hamster wheel, listen up! 🛑 The YouTube CEO’s 2026 letter is out, and it’s a total game-changer for how we find clients. YouTube isn't just a site anymore—it’s the world’s biggest TV network. 📺 At Passive Prospecting , we’ve seen this platform evolve, but the core strategy stays the same: provide massive value and the leads will follow. 📈

Stop chasing leads and start attracting them! 🧲 Last year, I split my YouTube strategy to focus purely on local sellers in North Texas. The result? 8 listings and $216,000 in GCI in the first year alone. Now in 2026, we’ve already hit 10 listings in just two months! 📈✨
